Make a Run For God!
Good afternoon! I hope that you all had a great weekend. Once again I sit at the computer and begin to write down what the Lord is doing in my heart and life. I began reading in Psalm 2 and honestly I struggled with the passage so I went and found it in the The Message Bible and I began to understand what God's Word was saying.
In verses 1-6 the Psalmist was saying nations, kings, and rulers are trying to run from God. They are saying. "Let's get free of God!" Wow! The Psalmist must have had a crystal ball and looked into the future to 2017. It seems every where I turn, people are running or trying to free themselves from God.
After watching the Clemson game, I turned to other stations and watched some of the New Year celebrations. I heard reporters ask people about what they wanted to experience in 2017 and one young woman's comments rocked me, she said, "I want to party more!" Wow, what ever happened to world peace, love and other comments that most make when asked this question?
The Psalmist says, "Heaven-throned God breaks out laughing. At first he’s amused at their presumption; Then he gets good and angry. Furiously, he shuts them up: “Don’t you know there’s a King in Zion? A coronation banquet is spread for him on the holy summit.” People are trying to run from God and persecute those that run to Him, but God Almighty has a word for them.
Some have said that our world seems to be getting worse and worse, but in reality we have been "worse" from the beginning. We are all addicted to sin and we all are in need of a Savior.
When I was reading this passage I had to connect it with Psalms 1 and it said that the Lord watches over the godly. He cares about those in a relationship with Him. Do you know Him? I am protected and loved by the One who created me. I will tell you that brings a smile to my face today. Nothing can happen to me without my Father knowing about it.
The world seems to have a target on those who know Christ. We are hit from every angle and targeted for the beliefs we have in our Savior, but He knows. He knows what we are facing for our faith. However, I had to ask myself, "What am I facing?" Has a target been placed on me because of the One I am following? Am I an undercover agent? If I am, then why?
I am not asking for the world to bring it on, because I am not stupid, but if they do am I willing to stand up for the One who died for me? Jesus stood in my place and am I willing to live my life for Him? What does that look like? A lot of rules and regulations? Some have commented before that they would never do the "Jesus" thing because of all the rules it would require of them. Well, I used to be in that crowd and I almost walked away because of the rules that other men fed me over the years. Some of you know what I am talking about: don't wear this, wear this, do this, don't do that, go here, and don't go there.
I am so glad I am learning it is not about the "doing" or the "not doing". I know that my Savior wants me to enjoy this life and the world that He placed me in. He wants me to laugh and to have a good time. And because I love Him more and more I choose to follow Him and for Him to lead me. I am His child.
Do I mess up? Absolutely. Does He cast me aside when I do? No. I am so glad my Dad and Mom didn't kick me to the curb when I messed up. He is a great Father and Friend. Do you know Him? If you don't the last part of this passage speaks for the title of this blog. It says, "But if you make a run for God—you won’t regret it!"
If you have lived a life of regrets, or you have some regrets in your life at this very moment I know something for certain. If you run to God, you will not regret it. In my life I have run to Him and I know I need Him. If you are tired of running there is one more sprint I would love for you to consider. Make a run to God today.
