He's Only a Prayer Away
This morning, as I pulled my chair up to the keyboard, I began listening to music, and a song began playing which said, “I believe in the name of Jesus!” I believe in Him. Do you believe in Him today? I can honestly say I am filled up with Him. I am not hollow or empty. I have walked that life and my life gauges have read “EMPTY”. The warning light was flashing and I was “stuck”. I do not desire to revisit that place.
Today, there are some of you who may be reading my words and feel as though your life tank is bottoming out. You are checking the gauges and all you seem to find is emptiness. What do your life gauges read? David said some amazing things in Psalm 9. He began with, “I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done. I will be filled with joy because of you. I will sing praises to your name, O Most High.”
David’s life tank seems to be reading full. Why? I believe it is because he praises the Lord with all his heart and he is filled with Christ’s joy. He recognizes that His Savior is real and he acknowledges the Lord in his life.
I know you have heard who won the National Championship in college football. Some of you care and some of you could care less. It takes all kinds of folks in this world. I, however, am a big fan of Clemson. I like the program and I think highly of the head coach. When they won, Dabo’s first few sentences, glorified God. He said he would not be where he was in life, if God had not directed him. He knows his God is real. I guarantee Dabo’s life tank is full.
I sit here today and I know I am not a head coach. I probably could not call a single play, but I know something about me. I would not be where I am in life, if God had not given me direction. I sit here knowing I am blessed with a great family. I am able to minister to some of the greatest folks in our area and I celebrate my recovery and the recovery of others. My life tank is full.
So you may be reading this blog and saying, that’s great Joey, but what about me? I feel like I am all alone in this life, and God seems to have run from me. David continues, “The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you.” Did you read that? "Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you.” Are you searching for Him? He is the only One who can fill your life tank.
Some, reading this, may feel as though you have been abandoned. Seven years ago, because of some personal things in my life, I felt abandoned. I was a mess and others knew how much of a mess I was. They told me they were completely done with me. I have never felt so depressed in my life as I was at that time. I felt as though I could not lift my head from my pillow. Some days all I felt like doing was crying. So I do understand, a little, where David was in his life. I also understand, for those who are reading this blog, where you are.
You may feel all alone and you are running to everything, but Jesus. I remember when God put men in my life who reminded me to run to the refuge of my Savior. All other things we run to, to fill our life, will leave us empty. Relationships? Yes. Holding grudges? Yes. Bitterness? Yes. Work? Yes. Family? Yes. Friendships? Yes. Anything? Yes. All things, other than Jesus, will leave you longing for more. He is the only One who satisfies..
Again, you may be asking, how do you know? I really do understand that but I have personally seen those who were angry become joyful. I have watched the bitter, forgive and witnessed those with addictions, lay them down for Jesus.
Is He real? Absolutely! Does He care? You better believe it! David says, “Sing praises to the Lord who reigns in Jerusalem. Tell the world about his unforgettable deeds.” Today, I am agreeing with David when he says the Lord has done some “unforgettable things”. If you know Jesus today, relationally, then you have hope. He will fill your life tank again. David said the Lord will not ignore our cries. If you need him today, He is only a prayer away. Will you pray to Him again? Maybe it will help if you begin your prayer as David did. “I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done. I will be filled with joy because of you. I will sing praises to your name, O Most High.”
I believe in God our Father I believe in Christ the Son I believe in the Holy Spirit Our God is three in one I believe in the resurrection That we will rise again For I believe in the name of Jesus
